Toll the Bell Vigil Service

Please plan to arrive by 12:15 PM as the vigil will start promptly.

At 1 PM, while the bells toll, we will walk as a group to the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral.

Toll the Bell Sound Installation

To honor our fellow citizens who have lost their lives and raise awareness for those working to have a positive impact in our city, on June 7, National Gun Violence Awareness Day, there will be a prolonged period of bell ringing and other community-driven sound making at 40+ locations across Philadelphia. Connect with us and all of Philadelphia while the bells are ringing. Tell us, in just one word, what do you feel while you hear the bells? Record a video or share a post with your word and use #tollthebell.

While this installation is city-wide, we welcome you to gather with fellow Philadelphians at these anchor sites, both open to the general public as a place for reflection:



PARTNER EVENTS ON JUNE 7

Silent Reflection Space & Museum
10 AM – 4 PM
Arch Street Meeting House, 320 Arch Street
The West Room, a historically preserved silent worship space in Old City, will be open for neighbors to come and listen to the Toll the Bell sound installation. Additionally, the museum will be open for exploration, perhaps providing an understanding of why Quakers do not use bells.

Tours & Bell Ringing
11 AM - 5 PM
Christ Church, 20 N American St
Christ Church is open for ticketed admission ($2-$10 per person). Guests may go up into the bell tower to join in the tolling.

Vigil and Community Connections
12:30 PM
Lutheran Church of God’s Love, 791 Newtown Yardley Rd, Newtown
The community is invited to Lutheran Church of God's Love’s Prayer Garden for private reflection. The sanctuary will be open and a vigil will immediately follow the Toll the Bell sound installation. Afterwards, connect with the Newtown Township Police Department in the Café to discuss ways to partner in creating peaceful community. Local organizations working to prevent and combat gun violence will also be on site to share information.

Prayer Service & Silent Vigil

Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, 609 Convent Rd, Aston
Gather for a service of prayers for a world suffering with gun violence. The service will be followed by a silent vigil before the bells toll.
