The Korean School of Southern New Jersey proudly presents the Spirit of Korea, a Korean traditional music and dance festival featuring Kim Duk Soo and Samulnori Hanullim, who performed in the Opening Ceremony of the PyeongChange 2018 Olympic Winter Games, and other renowned artists, including Chunseung Lee (drummer), Eunjoo Kang (dancer) and Gamin (musician).
Experience a rich sampling of Korean arts: chwitadae (marching band), samgomu (three-drum dance), flower basket dance, sword dance, taepyungmu (queen dance), saenghwang (wind instrument made of 17 bamboo pipes) and fan dance, to name a few. Through these short acts, audiences can learn some of the history of Korea. And, as a main attraction, enjoy Kim Duk Soo and Samulnori Hanullim, a quartet of percussive instruments and accompanying dance. The performance will conclude with a chorus stylized in Korean rhythm, New Heaven and New Earth, performed by 100-member choir with Peace Orchestra which features traditional instruments from several cultures.
This performance is co-presented by the Korean School of Southern New Jersey, NY Korean Traditional Marching Band, and Korean Cultural Center New York as part of KCCNY's Open Stage 2018.
