This is a lecture and performance about the social and musical world of hereditary Sarangi musicians from India. The main speaker and performer is Dr. Suhail Yusuf Khan, an acclaimed 8th-generation hereditary Sarangi musician who is currently a Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California-Santa Cruz. The event will consist of an academic talk followed by questions, then a performance of Dr. Khan's family's compositions in which he will be accompanied on the Tabla drums by local artist Aqueel Bhatti.
