Jason Marsalis & Simone

March 17, 2012
Zellerbach Theatre
PLA Presents
Share:
The youngest brother of New Orleans’s venerable first family of jazz (winners of the 2011 NEA Jazz Masters Award) and the son of jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis, Jason Marsalis has long been recognized as an in-demand drummer and record producer for his work with the Ellis Marsalis Trio and the Marcus Roberts Trio, and he is now receiving critical acclaim for his unique sound on the vibraphones. Hear what all the buzz is about as his amazing vibes quartet treats us to old standards and new gems, connecting with the audience in a way that is “deeply satisfying” (Chicago Tribune). Then, hear Simone—musical icon Nina Simone’s daughter and a highly praised live performer whose impressive resume includes starring roles in Broadway musicals Rent and Aida—as she shares her broad vocal range and innate lyrical skills and performs new songs from her upcoming album.
