Two of South Africas true freedom fighters and renowned musical icons come together to honor their homelands 20th anniversary of democracy. One of the most thrilling live performers around (Rolling Stone), trumpeter Hugh Masekela blends his native South African roots with pop and jazz. Identified simply as The Voice, Vusi Mahlasela is celebrated for poetic, optimistic lyrics sung in his distinct, powerful voice. This collaborative performance will feature South African freedom songs as well as many of their individual hits.
There
will be a pre-show chat at 7:00 PM in the Montgomery Theatre with Hugh
Masekela, Vusi Mahlasela and Dr. Carol Muller, Professor of Music at the
University of
Pennsylvania. Seating is first come, first served.
