Hua Hua Zhang's Visual Expressions
October 14 – 15, 2011
Harold Prince Theatre
PLA Presents
Philadelphia puppet artist Hua Hua Zhang and her company Visual Expressions partner with Philadelphia dance company Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers and composers Liang Liang and David Darling to treat us to the world premiere of
Two Handsa work that combines dance, music and various types of puppetry. According to ancient Taoist philosophy, keeping the balance and harmony of nature is the core requisite for a rich life.
Two Hands will encourage the audience to distinguish between Western and Asian values and how the two can contrast with and embrace each other. Born in China where she was one of the leading performers for the award-winning China Puppet Arts Troupe and formally trained at the prestigious Puppet Arts Program at the University of Connecticut, Hua Hua ingeniously uses Asian and Western puppet art to explore universal, cross-cultural themes and promote the peaceful understanding of the differences and similarities among many cultures.
