doug elkins choreography, etc.
March 6 – 8, 2014
Zellerbach Theatre
PLA Presents
Runtime: 85 minutes
With his rollicking blend of hip hop and contemporary dance vigorously steeped in parody, Doug Elkins 20-plus-year career has seen wild success. One of the most musical, witty and inventive choreographers of his generation (
New York Times), Elkins has a knack for lighting the fire of joy in his audiences. Included in the program is
Mo(or)town/Redux, a take on Shakespeares
Othello (and José Limóns seminal
The Moors Pavane) set to a score of Motown favorites Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, eclectic songstress Amy Winehouse and more. In addition, Elkins will premiere
Hapless Bizarre, a new work exploring intersections of physical comedy, choreography, flirtation and romance in silent film.
