Known for its adventurous exploration of contemporary music with “jet-propelled rockets of blistering virtuosity,” (The Washington Post) Penn’s renowned quartet-in-residence, the Daedalus Quartet, returns to our stage for a special livestream performance. With a focus on the voices of composers in search of home, the ensemble will perform Antonín Dvořák’s Cypresses, arrangements of his early songs that speak of nostalgia and memory. The program also features the Philadelphia premieres of Esencia by Tania León, connecting the composer’s classical training with the syncopated dances of her Caribbean heritage, and Exodus by Jean (Rudy) Perrault, which calls on the sounds of Perrault’s native Haiti, weaving a tale of confusion, conflict and finally, of hope.

This is a livestream performance with post-show artist Q&A.
